Steak & Ale Pie

There’s nothing quite like a classic steak and ale pie during the autumn and winter months. Tender chunks of braising steak are coated in seasoned flour, then browned and simmered slowly with onions, mushrooms, and a generous splash of rich ale. Topped with flaky pastry and served alongside some mash and veg, this pie is the ultimate in British pub-style comfort food!

This was a triumph, Tyler. My wife thinks I'm a kitchen god. The biggest job was drying out the liquid. I put it on a baking tray in the oven, then i tried adding cornflour slurry, before finally sieving most of the sauce. But wow! This was a treat.

Sometimes that happens if the filling didn't cool down and thicken enough before adding the top crust. Maybe try chilling it a bit longer next time so your crust has better support.

Delicious flavour & so easy. I left it simmer away in the bottom of my Aga for 4 hours & ate it the next evening with carrots, fine beans & homemade mash. Prior to prepping the veggies, I scrunched up some filo pastry, instead of puff pastry, for the top, sprayed with one cal olive oil, seasoned & baked for 12 mins to brown & it was fab.

Caroline, two tbsp is for the the browning of the steak. Method mentions making pastry but no real instructions or ingredients so just gone with ready made Tesco flaky pastry. Cheaper and easier than doing it yourself.
